Die Bakkalaureatarbeit „Spina mollis" entstand aus dem Jahresprojekt der Studienrichtung Keramik namens „Animal Utopial" anlässlich des 300-jährigen Jubiläums der Porzellanmanufaktur Meißen. Ziel des Projekts war, neue „Tiere und Wesen" abseits der klassischen Meissen-Motive zu kreieren. Die Vorgangsweise zur Formfindung war freigestellt.
Der Name „Spina mollis" beruht auf den Elementen meines Entwurfs, formuliert in der wissenschaftlichen Nomenklatur der Biologie. „Spina" ist das „Rückgrat" und „mollis" bedeutet „weich". „Spina mollis" sind zwei Dekanter, mit ähnlicher Formgebung.
Unter Beachtung von Ergonomie und Funktion entwickelte ich eine Form für die linke und rechte Hand. „Spina mollis" ist Gebrauchsgegenstand und Kunstobjekt zugleich.

This work for the Bachelor of Arts degree in Ceramics developed from the department's year-long project "Animal Utopia" on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of Meissen Porcelain. The purpose of the project was to create new "animals and creatures" distant from the usual classical themes of Meissen. Exploration and development of form was left to the artist. Inspirations for "Animal Utopia" came from a rhinoceros-beetle, bionics and the artists Hans Arp and Isamu Noguchi. I developed a biomorphen body, a hybrid combination of horn and teardrop form.
The name "Spina mollis" is based on design elements as formulated in the scientific nomenclature."Spina" is "backbone";"mollis" means "soft." "Spina mollis" are two decanters of similar design. In accordance with ergonomics and function,I developed one form for the left hand and the other for the right."Spina mollis" is both a functional object and an art object.
